THE MoM DEGREE
(Master of Maternity)

Prenatal Education Program

This is not merely higher education. This is the highest education – preparation and training for what many consider to be the most important event in life: childbearing.
For you and your family, this is an exciting time of growth and change ... a time of personal choices.
These classes – which are available to everyone in the community – are designed to help you and your loved ones meet the challenges, adapt to the changes, and make the right choices from the many options that are now available to expectant mothers.
Most importantly, our classes will prepare you to enjoy to the fullest extent the wonderful experiences that await you.
We invite you to earn your MoM Degree by enrolling in one or more of our course series or single-session classes. Here’s a brief description of each ...

Labor and Delivery Class

Included in this one-session class is a discussion of labor and delivery options, together with an explanation of pain relief methods. We’ll also take a tour of the University Hospital’s Labor and Delivery area. There is a 5 dollars fee, per couple, for this class

Lamaze Preparation for Childbirth Series

This six-week series will include:

    • breathing relaxation techniques for stress reduction
    • support person preparation
    • comfort measures for use during labor, delivery, and recovery
    • labor and delivery options, including pain relief

The series fee of $25 per couple includes the textbook.

Vaginal Birth After Cesarean Class

During our single-session class, we’ll address the advantages and controversies of having a vaginal birth after a previous Cesarean delivery. We suggest that the six-week Lamaze Preparation for Childbirth Series be taken with this class. There is a $5-per-couple fee for this class.

Refresher Childbirth Series

During our four-week series, we will review and practice the relaxation and comfort techniques for those who have previously taken Lamaze or Bradley childbirth courses. One class in the series is entirely devoted to preparing older brothers and sisters for the new arrival. The fee for the series is $15 per couple.

Young Mom’s Childbirth Series

This three-week series is designed specifically for teen mothers and their support people. We will discuss labor and delivery options, as well as comfort measures. There is a fee of $10 per couple for this series.
